David is dedicated to fully exploring the
possibilities of three dimensional shapes
formed from straight lines.

For inspiration, he draws on the work of
19th century mathematician and model
maker Theodore Olivier and artists Ken
Snelson, Alexander Calder and Naum Gabo.

Recent work includes an exploration of the
different stringing patterns he wrote
about for Hyperseeing magazine in
2010 and showed at the 2024 Bridges
Math and Art Conference Art Exhibition.
More recently, he has been expanding his examination of tensegrity mobiles in wood and yarn. They are on display in the Composite Gallery at the Museum of Mathematics in New York City from March 13, 2025 until June xx, 2025. Mobiles in that exhibit are shown on the home page of this site.
The exhibit is titled Emergent Surfaces: Studies in Tension and features his work and the work of Shiying Dong (@clay_mushi).
